Legislature Assembly Resolution

the Honorable Jay La Suer, 77th Assembly District; the Honorable Patricia
Bates. 73rd Assembly District; the Honorable Dennis Hollingsworth, 66th
Assembly District; and the Honorable Mark Wyland, 74th Assembly District,
Relative to commending the WOMEN'S RESORCE COMMITTEE
WHEREAS,
Whereas, The relationship between a city and its residents is a vital
and interdependent one, deriving its strength from the quantity and
quality of civic involvement and public spirit generated by individuals,
community groups, and governing bodies; and
WHEREAS,
On April 28, 2002, the Women's Resource Committee is celebrating its
Annual Benefit Auction "Hope for the Future," and upon this
occasion, it is deserving of special public commendations; and
WHEREAS,
The Women's Resource Committee was formed to publish and disseminate
material that educates women about the resources available to them and
their children; and
WHEREAS,
The Women's Resource Committee exists to help women help themselves
and promote choices that will enhance the physical, emotional, and psychological
health of women and their children; and
WHEREAS,
The Women's Resource Guide and Brochure is one of the projects that
helps women help themselves - empowering them to overcome and effectively
deal with today's challenges and trials; and
WHEREAS,
The third edition of the San Diego Edition of the Women's Resource Guide
is a 102-page listing of detailed referrals for pregnant women with
small children, and the guide is also posted on the Internet at www.wrg.org;
and
WHEREAS,
The Women's Resource Brochure, which is printed in English and Spanish,
is an abbreviated listing of the Guide, and referral headings include:
Medical Care, Financial Assistance, Material Needs, Housing, Adoption
Services, Legal Assistance, Counseling and Support Groups, and Domestic
Violence; and
WHEREAS,
The third edition of the guide was completed in October 2001 and over
20,000 complimentary guides and brochures have been distributed to San
Diego County churches, schools, libraries, ob/gyn offices, and social
service organizations; and
WHEREAS,
Future plans include the publication of guides for the Southern California
counties of Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino;
and
WHEREAS,
The contributions that the Women's Resource Committee has made to the
local area are invaluable, and reflect an organization devoted to the
highest ideals of community service; ; NOW, THEREFORE,
RESOLVED,
by Assembly Members Jay La Suer, Patricia Bates, Dennis Hollingsworth,
and Mark Wyland, That the Women's Resource Committee be commended on
the celebration of its Annual Benefit Auction and on the vital role
that it has played in improving the quality of life for women and children,
and that it be extended best wishes for continued success in the future.
